Meet Our volunteers
Some of our current and past volunteers share their stories and experience with us at the museum and their reasons for volunteering. We have so many people coming from all different backgrounds and professions.

OFFICE ASSISTANT
AUDREY—Former ER Nurse
“Every day is a special day when I get to work at the museum. I was very proud to receive a volunteer star award from the staff for my contributions in 2018. I didn’t have any related experience when I first started, but I respect the mission of the museum and feel comfortable in this environment. I like the attitude and dedication of the people I work with here, and I have a deep respect for the other volunteers and their history.”

MUSEUM EDUCATOR
LAURA—Student
“I became a volunteer because I love space science and wanted to get more involved with museum work. I like having conversations with people who are just as passionate about space as I am – it’s always fun to tell them something they may not have known before! I especially enjoyed taking part in the first Girl Scout Event— it was so nice to see the event turn out so well!”

AIRCRAFT RESTORATION
EDUARDO—Engineering Graduate
“I used to come to this museum a lot as a kid, and this is where I decided that I wanted to be an engineer. I just graduated from Sac State with a bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering. I like volunteering here because I get to meet and talk with different people. I especially like spending time with the other volunteers, learning from them and hearing their stories.”

Have More Questions?
My favorite part of our visit was when our tour guide Jerry showed us an airplane that was used to train pilots in WWII. I also liked learning about the Apollo moon missions.
What kind of volunteers are you looking for?
We need more volunteers to help with museum tours, administration, and aircraft renovation. We are always accepting other positions as well.
How much prior experience do I need to have?
You do not need extensive aircraft knowledge or experience to be a volunteer, we will provide orientation and an experienced volunteer mentor to guide you through the process.
What does the tour guide volunteer do?
As a tour guide, you will greet and guide visitors through the museum and air park. You’ll describe aviation and space artifacts and explain how STEM educations have made this possible. You will lead guests through interactive activities while providing facts and commentary.
